ABOUT ME

I’m Becca, a children’s author living in Devon. I grew up in the countryside, an avid reader in a house full of folk music and books. My debut middle grade, The Girl with Gills, was published to wide critical acclaim and longlisted for the prestigious Branford Boase Award.

I love stories. As a child, the writers who most inspired me were Roald Dahl, Astrid Lindgren, Michael De Larrabeiti, Jill Murphy and Helen Cresswell. I still remember the chills from reading The Moondial, by torchlight, way after my bedtime. I loved their characters - Sophie, Pippi, Chalotte, Mildred, Minty - nearly always small children with big, big spirits.

Now my favourite things to do are read, watch the river, and write stories that blend magic and realism to create big-hearted adventures.
